Harper's First Fever AND Food Allergy

Harper's first fever came on February 13th, 2014.  She wasn't acting grumpy or fussy, but I noticed that she felt so darn warm that morning.  Her temperature was at 99.6 at this point, so we took her to Vicki's like normal.  We told her about it, thinking that it was just from teething.  She monitored her fever all day and she said it stayed the same.  I took her temperature later that evening and low and behold, she had a temperature of 101.4.  Poor thing.  This was at 7:00 at night of course when we couldn't get an appointment with the doctor.  Luckily, we know our doctor well and texted him with what was going on.  He made a house call around 9:15 that night.  He determined it to be an ear infection and noticed her lungs sounded "wet."  He put her on an antibiotic and told us to pick up a nebulizer in the morning.  We picked up the antibiotic from the Walgreens pharmacy, since they stay open until 10:00.  Boy was I thankful for our Snuza that night.

We are having lots of fun trying new foods with Harper.  So far she has tried Rice and Oatmeal cereals, green beans and peas.  She hasn't been too interested in any of that.  She pushed most of the food out of her mouth with her tongue.  She didn't actually consume much of it.  Similar to how she takes medicine.  Last night we tried bananas with her.  She LOVED them.  She was going for the spoon and actually holding it in her hands.  She was actually swallowing the food!  JJ and I were so excited to see her interest.  We of course captured the moments.

Fifteen minutes later, we are getting ready for bed and putting Harper's PJ's on.  I notice a rash developing on her back.  She broke out.  My daughter has an allergy to bananas.  I was so surprised.  Josh and I don't have any food allergies, so we didn't think we would have any problems with Harper.  She is such a strong girl.  I'm confident that if I didn't notice it on her back, we never would have known.  She is just NOT a fussy baby.  Once again we texted the doc.  He said to pick up some benadryl and give that to her.  JJ picked up the topical cream, when she actually needed the oral medicine.  So he had to run out to another place.  The doc said that was a classic new dad mistake.:)  I suppose tomorrow we will just have to try sweet potatoes.

Choosing the Right Diaper Bag

Wow, was this a difficult task for me to do!  I searched list upon list.  I even decided to expand my budget to make sure the bag I was going to carry for the next two years was AWESOME and totally worth it.  I accumulated a batch of bags, that made MY top choices.  Luckily I DIDN'T have to break the bank for the one I loved.  Anyway, here were my top picks:
Ju-Ju-Be Be Prepard $118.00

Green Patterned Diaper Satchel

This diaper bag is for the Type A mama: It has tons of pockets and compartments so you can stay ultra-organized. It also comes with a changing pad, stroller attachments, a pacifier pad, bottled pockets and a removable, padded shoulder strap. You’ll be able to find everything in seconds -- no more digging around for your keys or baby’s favorite toy. $70,JJColeCollections.com
Ju-Ju-Be "Better Be" $120.00

Ju-Ju-Be Hobo Be $108.00
Ju-Ju-Be in my FAVORITE pattern!

JJ Cole Cadence Travel Bag - Ash Woodland

Messenger Baby Bag in Jazzy Blooms $82.60

Skip Hop Duo Diaper Bag - Chevron $58.00

{Petunia Pickle Bottom© Earl Grey Boxy Backpack $179}

I ended up choosing the essential diaper bag.  My sister bought it for me as a baby shower gift.  When it arrived, I wasn't impressed.  It was a lot taller than I had picture and quite frankly, it was bulky.  So I returned it and went with this one:

The JJ Cole Satchel Bag.  It's the perfect size.  It has four pockets inside along the sides.  It was a shoulder strap so I can carry it cross body, for when I need to carry it long period of time.  It has smaller straps so that I can easily grab the bag when I'm in a hurry.  I found it at Babies-R-Us.
